@semil Twitter also objectively breaks much more news than Reddit.

@timschlomi Yes. I don't think AI can be superhuman at magic the gathering though, if it's playing Modern, but doesn't know what the most recent edition's cards are. Now, if it has access then yes theoretically possible. Though likely absurdly difficult if it's one shot.

@timschlomi To elaborate. I think it depends on how much things have changed since the AI has been trained or retrained, how good its data was/ RAG is, how much data is available to it. The problem -- for AI -- is time marches forward and information is physical, it is in the digital past.

@timschlomi Theorem-proving, I think it's very possible, even probable. Programming in restricted senses yes as well -- I probably use ChatGPT and Github Copilot more than anyone else. But I'm under no illusions in thinking that AI is better everywhere. ML research -- depends.

@timschlomi chess is a creatures of the past, fixed rules, unchanging. chess is attractive because it is a game of the past. the cyber landscape is dynamic, it is grounded in reality, in the moment of the day. 1996 DeepBlue could beat (most) humans today. 1996 malware couldn't. it's absurd

But, those weights in the machine are not our future. We should never confuse it as such, and we should never be fearful of it as such.

Most of my tweeting SEEMS negative about AI, but is actually extremely positive. AI lives in the digital past. But there is enormous gain from learning from the past. For all of us, most of the lessons of history are not available. AI freely surfaces it. This is precious.

So we don’t have to worry about runaway hacker robots. To the contrary, an organization like OpenAI is an open book to hackers. Because the hackers are the best at what they do, and a small org simply is not the best at ~ inserting esoteric field. What does this mean? OSS.

On cybersecurity and OpenAI. Unfortunately, cybersecurity, like most useful things, is a game between the best and everyone else. AI will never be the best because it is detached from reality. It lives in the past, and can only reach but not surpass the picture it’s presented.
